Great taste, generous portions. Busy and popular. Recommend a visit. May have to wait during peak hours.
Excelent dim-sum restaurant!!! Service was perfect and very friendly. Huge variety of dishes and very affordable. We had chicken, fish, meat balls, a lot of vegetables, spring rolls, and many more!!! Very satisfying and exotic delicious flavours!!!
Quick summary, if you don’t want to read everything below: – Was told the wait was 10 minutes, ended up being 30+ minutes – Server forgot to order, had to be reminded after we sat for 20 minutes – Food starts to come 25 minutes…later – Dumpling dish had two flies on a SINGLE dumpling. No apology/explanation from anybody who spoke to us, including the server, the host, and the manager. Just a flat-out, “Oh… Do you want us to remake it?” – Both meat dishes were 50/50 fat-to-meat ratio – Expected us to tip for their (non-existant) service —– Full Review —– So it was a busy Sunday and the host told us it was a 10 minute wait, but we ended up waiting 30+ minutes. When we finally got seated, we handed in our dimsum order. 20 minutes pass and the table next to us got their order sheet handed back, and I wondered why we didn’t get it back. We had to ask the server to check the order. They handed it back and it turned out they forgot about us and had just put the order in after I had asked (there was a timestamp on the order sheet showing exactly what time they put in the order). Food starts to come 25 minutes later. The amount of fat on the rib dishes is ridiculous… literally 50% fat. The worst part is when the dumpling dish came, there were TWO flies on a SINGLE dumpling. (Actually, the worst part is that we still decided to stay and eat, because we’re Asian.) We flagged down the waitress, and what did she say? “Oh.” She then took the dish back to the kitchen, came back to us and asked us if we wanted it to be remade. Yes, I want more dumplings with flies that were probably frozen together and haphazardly cooked. Wait NO, I do not want them to be remade for me. Anyway, we asked for the bill and paid cash, but they took a long time to return the change like they thought we were going to tip them the extra 17% leftover change. They finally gave a bunch of loose change back probably expecting at least 10%. Um how about NO… Bad service, long waits, bad food, dishes with flies, and no apologies the whole time from neither the servers, the host, nor the manager (the one who gave us the bill and change). Let me also clarify that this is the very first time I’ve never left a tip. I’ve had bad dining experiences before and have always left at least a 10% tip for bad service, but today was the worst, by far. In hindsight, I wish there was some way to tip only the food runners who actually try do their job properly.
Expect to lineup. They have their own parking lot or just park on the street too. We came for dim sum. Just pick your items and eagerly wait for its arrival. We had the scallop dumpling, siu mai, sticky rice, beef balls, steamed rice roll…with prawns, and soya chow mein which was way too much food for two people. Best quality no but pretty good.
I won’t be coming back to this restaurant. The food wasn’t very tasty or fresh. The black cod was tough and tasteless. I think it was frozen…not fresh like other Chinese restaurants. The truffle chicken was horrible. The steamed vegetables were over cooked. The rice…was okay. The services isn’t very good, most Chinese restaurants are constantly changing your plate… not here. We had ask for a clean plate and a bowl for the rice. I was very thirsty and got a terrible headache after eating here. Don’t waste your money there are so many better places to eat in Vancouver.
we were invited to a birthday dinner for my friend. His wife did all the ordering. the Peking duck was very good. My wife and I found the shrimp and beef dish too rich, there was too much sauce on them. The calamari was ok…i have has much better. Maybe was just the style were not used to. the tapioca pudding was very good. All in all it was a nice restaurant, clean , waiter was attentive. food in general was good. It was a Wednesday night and not very busy at all.
I have tried Happy Valley a couple of times and I have been very impressed with the food every time, and the service is good as well. Make sure you make reservations or you will be waiting for a long time!!
Visited Happy Valley dim sum restaurant for lunch in February 2020. This restaurant serves decent dim sum. If you are near Rupert and Lougheed HWY area, you should consider this place for Asian food.
Excellent place for Dim Sum, impecable service, delicious culinary and great portions and affordable prices .
