A friend brought us over. He had only done takeaway before. Food was amazing. Very tasty and spiced just right. You have got to try the beef roll. We also had spicy squid, eggplant, lamb with cumin, and pan fried pork dumplings. All were excellent….I know that there are many similar places in Vancouver, but this visit was a highlight of our trip. Hope to be back in August..
Several friends had commented about the fabulous hand made noodles at the Yu Xiang Yuan Restaurants so we finally made the effort to make the trek to Fraser Street. We ordered the seafood noodles and the won ton, both were delicious. The best part was…that the dishes were modestly priced also.
We have eaten at this noodle house 4 times now. Great freshly made noodles. Regular dishes for us, such as the diced chicken and peanuts, are consistently good. Pan Fried dumplings are a must! Great prices. Staff can be a bit inattentive but nothing too…significant and the room is small-so it’s easy to catch someone’s attention. Don’t come for the service, ambience, proof-read menu or matching chairs. We are talking about good authentic food.
This place feels quite authentic. The noodles are fantastic. All of the dumplings I have tried are also delicious.
– Chinese northern food of Sichuan with specialty of different types of handmade noodles – Place has 2 long tables and 8-9 small tables – As with most restaurants in Vancouver, menu has both English and Chinese and this one, pictures of different types noodles…at the back as well – For the 3 of us, we had Chicken with special hot sauce (口水雞), Zhajiang noodle mixed with cucumber on pushing noodle (刀拨麵)and Tan tan noodle in cutting noodle (刀削麵)all dry noodles, orders are good sizes – Though I like all the food we had ordered, I favoured the chicken dish most, the chicken is covered with their special hot spicy sauces, shallot, green onion and flavour whatever they specially homemade, just delicious and the noodles are according to your pick of cut – We ended up packing the large portion of the noddles home – Pricewise, it’s economical – Highly recommend and will visit again when I am in townMore
This is a step up from the usual hole in the wall Chinese comfort food – mainly because the noodles are hand made and oh so fresh since they are made right before your eyes. I make my own pasta at home, the Italian way,…using a little metal machine where I crank the rollers to squeeze the dough into sheets and then cut them into noodles. I could never stretch the dough I make like the way they make their hand stretched noodles at Yu Xiang Yuan. Yes, there are other places that do the same thing, and they are good too, but my comparison here is to other restaurants that do not do this. Also, if you eat here you have to order the xiao long bao. These are the steamed dumplings that have soup inside. Another item that they recently added to the menu are the beef rolls. The dough is similar to the wraps you get with Peking Duck, but there is beef rolled in – very yummy.
We enjoyed our noodle soup with lamb & vegetables and picked stewed noodles from 5 noodle choices. The noodles were cooked just right. We also had the chicken in special hot sauce along with pork and chive dumplings. It was just enough food to fill…both of us up. The service was good. Lots of street parking available.
Large family gathering for dinner. Food was excellent. Big portions at a very reasonable price. You can watch them make homemade noodles. Huge menu. Makes it hard to decide what to have. But something for everyone. Busy at night. So probably need reservations.
