We’re a Calgary-based crafter of small-batch ice cream. We serve up ten unique flavours, with three specials rotating each month. All can be served in a home-made waffle cone.
Established in 2012.
This is our original shop: an unlikely and hard-to-find cul-de-sac where we made our very first batches of Ice Cream.
We have plenty of free parking in our private lot and piles of seating and hang-out space in one of Calgary’s first parklets (story: we converted a bunch of parking stalls into a nice place to hang).
Our outdoor space is the scene of countless wedding photoshoots, unofficial family reunions, run-club and bike group calorie re-ups, and general merry-making. And our hand-painted sign is one of the most instagrammed spots in Calgary!
Don’t forget to peek into our kitchen window to see where all the ice cream magic happens.

Hot off a South American motorcycle odyssey cut short by stress and fatigue, our founder Billy Friley found himself on his Grandma Gladys’ porch in Helena, Montana. This is where he discovered a life changing pint of rich, locally made huckleberry ice cream. Enough to get him out of his funk so he could hightail it back to Calgary to create the freshest, creamiest ice cream Calgarians had ever tasted.
The very first Village Ice Cream opened shop in 2012 in a plain old building on an impossible to find cul-de-sac. An improbable place, hidden away against the railway tracks.
Village Ice Cream is a cult favourite in Calgary, there’s often quite a line and nobody will hesitate to stand in it. For this visit I was grabbing pints to go and for a Wednesday evening in February it was really quiet. I grabbed the Meyer Lemon Pint and the Mint Guide, sooooo good! Those pints don’t last long in my house. I love their commitment to working with the community and how all the people on their containers are actual villagers in the community.

Amazing ice cream. Got melted chocolate and it was soooo goooood! I got a kids scoop and it was a lot for me, so definitely good portion size for the price.
Great ice cream flavours! Even a place like Toronto does not have elegant flavours compared to Village Ice cream. My personal favorites are Earl Grey and Salted Caramel. I do have to admit that their scoops are on the pricy side. However, if you buy the tube it’s alot more affordable and you can enjoy it for some time.
One of my favorite ice cream places! I tried the maple pecan and guide’s mint. The ice cream is so creamy and delicious! Very flavourful. The cones are made in store and are crispy and not to sweet. Workers are friendly! Will def be back!
Be prepared to wait for some really great ice cream. They have some classic flavors and also have some unique flavors as well as sorbets. I decided to get the Huckleberry Kid scoop because from the sample, it was pretty yummy. I also got the cone, which costs $1 and it seems to be made in house. It was worth the wait for me. They have great seating as well. I recommend coming here to try it out. They also sell stickers which costs $1 and it’s cute.
Nothing like a great ice cream shop with tons of flavors to choose from! Village Ice Cream is our go-to place for special occasions. Every option is smooth and creamy and packed with flavor. The staff is quick and friendly and the shop always looks clean, even during the busy times. We love Village Ice Cream!
Went during the winter holidays and they were still packed with people. Staff was friendly and offers samples of flavors. They had unique flavors and even holiday ones. I tried the bourbon eggnog and earl grey on a cone and it was creamy and good! I especially loved the earl grey – very tasty! Definitely recommend to try them out, if I had more days to visit there I would’ve went back!
