Tango was opened in February 2010, and is now the fourth restaurant in the building and Smuggler’s Inn is in it’s original dining room.
We had a great experience at Smugglers! They were very accommodating of us with our 4 month old baby and his stroller! They were attentive and staff was great! Would have given 5 stars however I found my cut of prime rib was mostly fat(not the yummy prime rib kind) and bone. I had been craving Prime rib since before I was pregnant so I was so excited to finally get some the meat was delicious where it was but the cut wasn’t great. However still a great experience Salad bar was top notch as always!
I came here with great expectations of prime rib… Which were not really met with meat that was a bit tough and not really cooked prime rib style. If you’re used to american-style prime rib with au jus, you will likely be disappointed. I’m not quite certain if the meat is roasted there. The au jus was more like a glaze or sauce on top of the meat. The salad/soup bar is very nice though.
We loved the atmosphere and the decor. We were seated right away and the staff was SO friendly and accommodating. We were placed at a cozy table right near the fireplace. The portion sizes were massive and very filling.

“””I wish I could give it more stars because the ambiance is so good. We went for a going away lunch and the service was horrible. We also waited over 45 minutes once our orders were in for our food. We ordered the basics: burgers and fish and chips. Our food was alright but the whole experience took too long that A&”
Smuggler’s is a typical old school steak house with outdated decor and mediocre food. We went with a group of 10 and the majority tried the prime rib as the reviews state it was the best in Calgary. I agree the cut of meat and oversized portions were decent but the sides are lacking. They have a salad bar and soup station that I enjoyed more than my entree. I am going against the grain on this one and still prefer The Guild steakhouse. I can dig old school charm but need flavour, step it up.
