If you find yourself exploring Bloordale Village in Toronto don’t miss this amazing little gem. Chito’s Pizza is a narrow storefront a few steps east of Lansdowne Ave., with an order window on the street and almost always a cluster of people waiting to order…or pick-up. And there’s a reason there’s almost always people hanging about: the food – especially their famous shawarma pizza – is soooo good. In all honesty, while they serve up a number of yummy take-away treats at Chito’s, we go almost exclusively to order the shawarma pizza. This is the definition of comfort street food for us. Order by the slice or by the whole pie, and get lashings of both the garlic and the hot sauce slathered on everything. And a word about the hot sauce: don’t let the idea scare you. This isn’t eye-watering heat. It’s a lovely, slightly sweet heat that doesn’t overpower the shawarma chicken and complements the garlic sauce perfectly. It’s a must have if you’re going to order this pizza (which you really should). And, here’s the cherry on top of this sundae: a generous slice (and by generous we mean you’ve had lunch after one slice) of the shawarma pizza is an almost unbelievably cheap $3/slice. Yes, you read that right – $3/slice. And the “slice” is actually a quarter of a whole 12″ pie. Amazing value for money. Trust us; if you’re in the neighbourhood and have a craving for some delicious shawarma pizza you just have to give Chito’s a try. You’ll be glad that you did.
