4.0/51 Reviews

Located at 218 Alton Ave in Toronto, A-Game Cafe was one of the city’s most beloved board game cafes. For those searching for a “board game cafe near me” between 2015-2020, this was the go-to spot.

The A-Game Story

This game cafe in Toronto opened its doors in 2015 and quickly became more than just a place to play. Unlike a typical video game cafe, A-Game created a cozy atmosphere that felt like a fireside gathering with friends.

Board Game Cafe or Casino Lounge? Shared Experiences and Social Fun

Board game cafes have become popular gathering spots where friends meet over shared tables to enjoy laughter, strategy, and lighthearted competition. Similar to online casino lounges, these cafes foster a sense of community and excitement, where people connect, relax, and enjoy friendly challenges. Online casinos now bring this social aspect to the digital world with live dealer games and multiplayer options that let friends experience the thrill of a game night together, even from afar.

Next, let’s look at the unique features that made A-Game Cafe special, from its broad game selection to its warm, community-focused atmosphere.

What Made It Special?

As one of the best board game stores in Toronto, they offered:

  • Huge selection of games
  • Expert staff recommendations
  • Comfortable playing space
  • Welcoming atmosphere
  • Great food and drinks

Their Game Collection

The cafe had an impressive library including:

  • Pandemic Legacy series
  • Wingspan with expansions
  • Marvel Champions
  • Classic games like Carcassonne
  • Modern hits like Azul
  • And hundreds more!

Community Hub

This board game lounge in Toronto hosted:

  • Wedding celebrations
  • Birthday parties
  • First dates
  • Engagement photo shoots
  • Regular gaming meetups

Why People Loved It

With 4.6/5 stars from 470 Google reviews, customers praised:

  • Uncrowded space
  • No long waits
  • Friendly staff
  • Perfect gaming atmosphere
  • Great cafe game selection

The End of an Era

Like many game stores in Toronto, A-Game Cafe faced challenges during the 2020 pandemic. Despite their popularity and strong community, they had to permanently close their doors, marking the end of a special chapter in Toronto’s gaming community.

While newer board game bars in Toronto have opened since, A-Game Cafe set the standard for what a gaming space could be – not just a place to play, but a community hub where lasting memories were made.

A-Game Cafe might be gone, but it showed Toronto how magical a board game cafe could be. For five years, they created a space where strangers became friends, and games brought people together. While we can’t visit anymore, their impact on Toronto’s gaming culture lives on through the community they built.

Great place to relax with some friends and play games.

Great place to relax with some friends and play games. Super helpful staff ready to explain, guide and assist dring game play. They also offer good game recommendations depending on your group. They offer a variety of coffee, smoothies, deserts and other stuff to munch…on while you are there, but it’s not a restaurant.
