I love afternoon tea at Astor Lounge. The selection of teas is outstanding. The food menu is scrumptious especially the pastries! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and have a true passion for tea! This is my new favourite spot for afternoon tea in the Greater Toronto Area.
Very good. One of the best we’ve been to in Toronto. And we’ve been to most. 🙂
In terms of both presentation and taste, the afternoon tea set was great! A good variety of quality tea was available and the server explained about each type of tea thoroughly. The only let down was the state of the washrooms which were located in the basement- far from a five star hotel standard.
My friends and I meet for Afternoon Tea every Christmas and like to try different places. We were excited to try the Astor Lounge for the first time. The good: The food for Afternoon Tea was great. Scones were delicious. Probably one of the better places when it comes to the food. Beautiful presentation. Staff accommodated special food requests which was greatly appreciated. Room for improvement: Tea was ok, not very strong eventhough we steeped it for almost the entire time. The service itself was just ok, wouldn’t say top notch though. Small lounge was very cold so we were uncomfortable. When we were ready to leave we noticed that other tables had also complained about the cold and were given space heaters. Considering this is supposed to be a nice hotel, the washrooms were dirty. Don’t think they were cleaned during the entire 3 hours we were there. Overall the Afternoon Tea was good, but probably not worth the $100/person (after taxes and tip). We are glad we tried it, but we won’t be returning.
Overall, the experience was enjoyable. I’ve been to high tea a few times now and I have noticed that the savoury canapés are always a bit underwhelming no matter where we go. The bread featured in the savoury canapés were a bit stale and dry. Not sure if that’s by design but that was my impression. The savoury/sweet madeleine with the pickled fennel was a touch odd. I’m not sure how I felt about it but I wasn’t a big fan. Other than that the sweets were pretty standard fare for high tea. I did enjoy the Midnight Blossom Tea. The Oolong tea we got was not bad, it tasted more like buttered popcorn than it did buttery shortbread. I enjoyed the mocktails. A great way to have something that’s non-alcoholic. Service was great.
I’ve been to most high teas in and around the GTA and this was by far the most expensive for no good reason. While the lobby of the hotel is beautiful, it’s far too cold and many patrons wore their coats through their meal. Not worth the price. Many other venues offer same services for about $60 less per couple.
Their afternoon tea is fantastic, especially the variety of tea, and the burgers in the Chinese New Year Set. The Jasmine scones are awesome. However, the service is way lower than I expected. The waitress is nice and patient, but they never came to ask after we selected the tea. Every time we need water or something else, it took us thousands of times to get their attention, even there were only three tables with two servers. It took us 20 mins to call them and get our bill, nobody ever answered until a manager from the lobby saw our hands. I almost missed my flight. The afternoon tea set with a mocktail is around $100 after taxes.
Service was fantastic, it definitely added to our experience! The price was a bit steep but you do get a large selection and great atmosphere.
I love this Lounge feel comfortable and relax, I thinks it’s best High Tea I’ve ever had. Dessert are delicious. Service was well-timed and friendly.
