Great patio, shielded from the street by a strand of trees (which block out a lot of the street noise). Terrific regional Italian food, and a good selection of wines (although they could do with introducing a few cheaper options).
Mercatto is located in the building where I work but I would travel to it if it weren’t. I have dined at Mercatto many times: everything I’ve ordered, from appetizers to pizza to pasta has been really excellent. Service is always cheerful and attentive.
Mercatto is a mid-priced venue with a regularly updated menu featuring Italian style and continental fare. A tasty menu, good selection of wine and business casual atmosphere for lunch. Fast and friendly service. If only other popular Toronto restaurants had such well trained and non-pretentious staff who put the customer first.
We had a gourmet pizza and mushroom linguine (special). The excellent flavors of the pizza was offset by it being quartered without fully cutting through the pizza. Perhaps this seems like a minor thing but one ought not struggle with food. The mushroom linguine was very flavorful with the just the right portion size an adult appetite. The mushrooms could have been cut smaller as well or else a sharp knife should be supplied.
Food was excellent, wine list was great. Only problem, resturant was dead. Wait staff toldus that due to the location it is busier through the week, specifically at lunch and after work deinks. Other than that one of the best restaurants I have been to in Toronto. The staff was so friendly, the chef came out to personally speak with us and the Sommelier was very knowledgable. Our waitress was also outstanding.
Been three times now, and still think they could do some work on customer service. The staff could be more knowledgeable about their wine list. Our particular server was unengaged, totally unenthusiastic while serving. Food was good, consistent with previous visits. – offering what you’d expect from a mid-priced trattoria in Toronto. Best on patio, where you can hear your companion speak, interior too noisy due to it’s hard surfaces. (Unfortunate).

But we waited nearly an hour for it to arrive, despite reminding the waiter several times, and then had to wolf it down in 10 minutes to get back to the office. Portions are quite large and can be easily shared, please advise patrons of this, esp. the pizzas, even the mains.
“As always the service was perfect
