CUISINES
Philippine, Asian
We saw this Filipino restaurant after we heard mass one sunday. Location was very strategic. Lots of food choices and to our surprise all of it were delicious. No wonder the line was a blockbuster. It was a hit. Staffs are very accommodating. Highly recommended….A must try.
i was craving for a filipino food, and my husband saw the resto. looks all delicious! then i ordered lugaw (congee) it was really good! ican finish 2 bowl! hahaha! then my husband ordered kare kare, and its the best kare kare we’ve tried! we will…definetly go back here to try all the food! hahahaMore
Don’t get me wrong but I loved the place. However, after trying its next door neighbour, Pampangas, was a tad better The Kare Kare and Ginataang Langka (Young jackfruit with coconut milk) were delicious. However, I wish there was a bit more. The food was…good nonetheless. Overall the food was good but lacked the Pampangas taste.
I have been in Joyce/Collingwood area since 2009, I seldom eat Filipino food before. But, when I get to eat in Plato, I was brought back to “real” Filipino cuisine i.e. not too salty, not too greasy etc. We Filipinos are really easy to please…in terms of food, basta salty and saucy, we’re somehow fine with it. However, at Plato, they have a balance taste, you won’t recognize it at the first bite coz it’s not the usual salty food but as you bite more, you would feel that real bite. There are numerous Fil Resto in Vancouver but Plato Filipino is one of the best! It’s time to try and get out of your “tongue’s comfort zone”, try the real one. Highly recommended if you are a true Filipino eater and you really know what “true” Filipino food taste like.
Visited this place twice this month for their delicious squash in coconut juice and “Pinakbet”. Staff were friendly and the place is clean. Food price is reasonable. They also have meat dishes which i will probably buy on my next visit.
While stopping off for some bakery goodies from nearby Bao Bakery, I decided to pick up some lunch from Plato Filipino. In reality, it was probably more like breakfast because I ordered their Tapsilog ($14). For those of you that don’t know, silog is a…classic Filipino dish containing rice and a fried egg and they have a whole variety of silogs depending on the type of protein used. In this case, tapa, or marinated beef slices. Plato’s version came with shanghai rolls and steamed rice that was topped with garlic. I found that the lumpia here were quite tiny and weren’t the least bit crispy (they wound up being kind of soft and limp). Meanwhile, the marinated beef slices were a bit tough and similar to jerky in texture (this didn’t come as unexpected to me as I’ve heard of tapsilog being referred to as marinated beef jerky before at another restaurant). On the bright side, the fried egg had a bit of runny yolk when I poked into it. However, I was kinda disappointed overall with the food here.
