Barbecue
If you’re into dim sum buns in a big way, this is where the local Chinese get theirs. The buns are baked, not steamed. Also the place for other kinds of dim sum treats. You can have a BBQ pork over rice lunch. Mind you,…there’s only 1 small round table for two. Most patrons fill a box of goodies and take it home or munch while strolling around Chinatown.
This little barbecue spot is a great option if you’re outside the hours of the butcher shop on Fisgard that offers the best Chinese barbecue in town. These guys also have great baked goods and is a spot I like to visit with my kids…for a quick treat. In fact, I think I will plan a little detour here on my adventures with my kids this weekend.
I find the non corporate mom and pop ambience of Victoria Barbecue House Bakery a refreshing change from the ever increasing feel of robotic, cloning corporate stores. These small stores give you a genuine connection to the people who serve you and create the product….You are just another number to large corporations. The food products here are tasty and make a good snack or small lunch. The only down side is this store only takes cash payments. I think they would make more sales if they also take debit cards, credit cards, and make an internet online presence. They are a successful small mom and pop shop and perhaps do not want to grow into another corporate chain and turn into another corporation.? The world is like that in all things. If you want wealth and power, you have to give up some of your soul. If you want to have less wealth and power, you get to keep more of your soul. It depends on what you want more and choose one.
Love the soy sauce chicken/duck with rice/noodles. They chop it up right in front of you, it is very delicious, filling, and definitely worth the price…there is only one table there with 2 seats, so this place is a place to get food to go….There fresh pork buns are great too. Love this little gem of a place near china town.
We were looking for take-away BBQ pork buns. This place was spot on. Really good value, and totally delicious. I usually have steamed buns, but the baked version they do here was as delicious.
